Best Hotels in Seattle

best hotels in Seattle

Seattle is an incredible, diverse city with so much to offer.  As someone who used to live in Seattle (and an avid traveler), I know just how much it matters to choose the right hotel in the right neighborhood.  In this guide I’m sharing the best hotels for luxury travelers, budget-conscious visitors, couples, solo travelers, and more.  So whether it’s your first or tenth time visiting Seattle, here’s where to stay in Seattle for the perfect trip.

Best Neighborhoods to Stay in Seattle

One thing that I really love about Seattle is that it has very distinct neighborhoods.  There’s a neighborhood for tourists, for foodies, for outdoor activities, and for city people.  Each neighborhood has its own vibe and advantages.  So whether you want to be steps from Pike Place Market, immersed in nightlife, or tucked into a quaint, quiet corner… here’s a breakdown of the best neighborhoods to stay in Seattle and who they’re ideal for.

Belltown

Best for:  Nightlife lovers, foodies, young couples

Just north of downtown, Belltown is packed with great restaurants, bars, music venues, and boutique shops.  The neighborhood comes alive at night which makes it a great base if you’re looking for late night entertainment at your doorstep.  Plus, the hotels in this area often come with incredible skyline views of waterfront views.

Capitol Hill

Best for:  Young travelers, nightlife lovers, solo travelers

If Seattle has a “gay-borhood”, Capitol Hill is it.  The neighborhood is known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community, quirky cafes, indie boutiques, and nightlife.  One thing that I personally love about Capitol Hill is that it has more of a local feel, but it’s just a short train ride or walk to the main attractions.

Downtown Seattle

Best for:  First-time visitors, business travelers, people who love to be in the hustle & bustle of a city

As I’m sure you can guess, downtown Seattle is the heart of the city and the most convenient neighborhood for first-time visitors.  You’re close to attractions like Pike Place Market, the waterfront, tons of great bars and restaurants, and train stops making to get around.  Keep in mind, downtown is busy and business-oriented so while you’ll be in the center of the action, it’s not a quiet place to stay.

Fremont/Ballard

Best for:  Off-the-beaten path travelers, beer lovers, return visitors

If you want to see a different side of Seattle, I suggest staying in Fremont or Ballard.  Fremont is quirky and artsy while Ballard has one of Seattle’s best craft beer and restaurants scenes.  Both neighborhoods are a bit farther from downtown (and don’t have access to a train stop); but worth it for travelers who want a local, off-the-beaten path experience.

Don’t miss…

Queen Anne

Best for:  Families, couples, those who prefer quiet evenings

Queen Anne is one of the most charming neighborhoods in Seattle.  The neighborhood has two different “feelings” to it with the lower portion (referred to as “Lower Queen Anne” being near big attractions like the Space Needle (meaning you get more foot traffic), and the upper portion (referred to as “Upper Queen Anne”) is more quiet and residential.  No matter where you stay in Queen Anne, the whole neighborhood has a more quiet, peaceful feeling.

Best Luxury Hotels in Seattle

Funny enough, Seattle only has one, five-star hotel in the city.  However, there are plenty four-star hotels that still blend world-class service with a distinctly Pacific Northwest feel giving “luxury” in every aspect.

Four Seasons Hotel Seattle

5* | Neighborhood:  Downtown

Steps from Pike Place Market, the Four Seasons Hotel offers unparalleled luxury in the heart of downtown (it is the only five-star hotel in the city).  With floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, and a rooftop infinity pool overlooking Elliott Bay, it’s a true treat to stay here.  Plus, the Four Seasons has an indulgent spa and a fine dining restaurant called Goldfinch Tavern.

The Edgewater is ideal for music lovers, couples, and anyone who wants a memorable, waterfront stay.  The hotel is unique for being the only over-water hotel in Seattle, it’s legendary music history, and cozy rooms with fireplaces.

Tips for Booking Hotels in Seattle

These are my top tips for booking hotels in Seattle…

  1. Book early during peak season – Seattle is busiest in the summer months, especially near Pike Place Market and downtown.  If you’re visiting during these times, book your hotel 2–3 months in advance for the best rates and availability.
  2. Choose your neighborhood based on your travel style
  3. If you’re renting a car, keep in mind parking costs – If you’re renting a car (you don’t need a car in Seattle – only if you plan to visit places outside of the city), check hotel parking fees in advance.  Downtown hotels often charge $40+ per night.
  4. Consider public transit access – Finally, if you don’t plan to have a car, I would suggest staying in a neighborhood that has train stops to save money on transportation.

FAQ

Q:  “What’s the best area to stay in Seattle for first-timers?”

  • A:  If it’s your first trip, I would say that staying downtown is the best option.  You’ll be within walking distance of Pike Place Market, the waterfront, museums, and plenty of restaurants.  It’s the easiest spot if you don’t want to rent a car.

Q:  “Where should I stay in Seattle without a car?”

  • A:  Downtown, Belltown, and Capitol Hill are your best options if you don’t plan on driving.  These neighborhoods are walkable, well-connected by public transit (including the Link Light Rail), and packed with restaurants and attractions.

Q:  “What hotels in Seattle have the best views?”

Q:  “Is it better to stay in Downtown Seattle or Queen Anne?”

  • A:  Truthfully, they are both great areas and it really depends on your style of travel.  Downtown is perfect for first-timers who want to be in the middle of the action, close to Pike Place Market and the waterfront.  Queen Anne offers a quieter, more residential feel with great views from spots like Kerry Park – ideal if you prefer a calmer base.
