Paris is my favorite city in the world (I’m a bit biased because I do live here), and Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. The neighborhood is central, beautiful, has tons of incredible restaurants and boutique shops. Plus, it feels a smidge less touristy than neighborhoods like Le Marais and Montmartre. These are my top recommendations for the best hotels in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Is Saint-Germain-des-Prés a Good Area to Stay in in Paris?
Yes, Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the perfect place to stay in Paris. It’s central, so you’re walking distance from all of Paris’s major attractions like the Louvre, Notre-Dame, etc. Plus, the area is well connected by metro so for longer distances, you can easily hop on the train. As far as things to do in Saint-Germain-des-Prés – you really don’t even need to leave the neighborhood! (Although I would recommend venturing out to experience other areas of Paris). Here you have boutique shopping, museums, plus tons of bistros and incredible restaurants.
Pro tip: If you want to sound like a true Parisian, instead of saying “neighborhood”, use the term “arrondissement”. In Paris, you would say that Saint-Germain-des-Prés is in the “6th/7th arrondissement” or you can tell a local that you’re “staying in the 6th”.

Q: “Is Saint-Germain-des-Prés worth visiting?”
- A: Yes! Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris! It’s central, has great restaurants, and tons of amazing boutique shopping. The neighborhood is beautiful and while it can get touristy, there are many streets that feel local.
Q: “Is Le Marais or St. Germain better?”
- A: Both Le Marais and St. Germain are two of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris. I think that if you’re interested in staying somewhere a bit quieter, you should pick St. Germain. If you want something more lively and with more late night options, I would choose Le Marais. (You can read more about Le Marais here).
Q: Is Saint Germain expensive?”
- A: Unfortunately, most of Paris is pretty expensive and I wouldn’t say that St. Germain is the exception. Its central location is prime real-estate and prices reflect that. The further out from the city centre you get, the cheaper prices will be.
